Do your earbuds or cables get tangled and have you ever wished that there was a solution for this well today I am going to talk about a product that was featured on Kickstarter called iCoil the idea for this product came one day when Colin was driving in his car and his phone rang, and he couldn’t get his headphones untangled and plugged in before the call went to voicemail. So that’s when he started to wonder if there was a product available that would solve his problem. “It seemed like such an obvious, everyday problem that I assumed someone else had already invented something to solve it.” said Colin Kent inventor of iCoil Since this was his first time creating a product like this he started asking around to see if he could find a local design firm that would help create the product he so envisioned. He was amazed to find out that there were a lot of people who were willing to give it the old college try, but very few could keep it simple and carry out a workable design. So like most Kickstarter projects after several months and prototypes they arrived at a simple product design that met all the functional needs I had envisioned:
- It allowed users to avoid a tangled mess every time they pulled headphones out of their pocket, backpack or briefcase
- It didn’t force anyone to buy a new set of headphones
- It could stay attached to headphones whether in use or in storage
So when I got this product like I do with most products I get I fool around it and sometimes get frustrated now I had to watch Colin’s video on how to use iCoil more than once since he demos the use of the product a bit fast But I have found that if your ear buds have a thick coat of a matte like feel to them this product might not be for you I have many ear buds that have these coating even my original Apple ear buds have this coating on it I ended up using my spare headphone 30mm jack extension now it can be tricky to first get your cable on the iCoil at first but once its on its good to go. The headphones won’t totally roll right up close to the iCoil like some products like the Retrak or ReCoil Winders since it doesn’t have the spring motion When I started out on YouTube I reviewed a product almost like this called the Earbud YO-YO this product allowed you to wind your ear buds but what makes the iCoil better is this product you can wind it up to the right length no worry about Overall I think iCoil has a neat product for those who want to keep their earbuds together and not have to worry about tangled messes or spring-loaded product iCoil might be the best cable management for you Pick up a iCoil on there website for only $13.95
